FROM THE MAIL BAG: Occasionally, we receive something that we like to share:

Dear Friends at Grace Church,

Thank you all very much for the cards you have sent me. They are great reminders of Grace Church and I do miss you all. Recovery from a fall with conditions is taking much longer than I expected. Thank you for your prayers. Happily, I did not break any bones in the fall.

I’m looking ahead to joining you all at least by early June.

My best wishes to each and every body.

Natalie Phillips

HEALING PRAYERS AT 10:00 SERVICE Healing prayers will be offered the first Sunday of the month during the 10:00 service, continuing a tradition offered in our three Chapel services. During Communion, one of our Priests will be available for a confidential prayer, accompanied by a blessing with holy oil. After receiving communion, you are invited to come to the prayer station near the baptismal font, kneeling or standing as you are comfortable. The Priest may ask “How can I pray with you today?” We are invited to share a specific or more general prayer concern, knowing that details will remain private.

We look forward to sharing this sacramental, healing opportunity with our 10:00 congregation this Sunday, May 7, 2017.

MOTHER’S DAY BRUNCH What better way to show appreciation for Mothers than to treat them to a delicious brunch at Grace Church? Brunch will be served in the Library of Grace House immediately following 10:00 service on May 14; parents of Church School-aged children are invited to enjoy a cup of coffee and then gather with the family to eat at 12:00. Cost is $10 per person and includes quiche, fruit salad, coffee and tea. Ticket sales support the Inter-generational Pilgrimage to Ecuador.

STEWARDSHIP :“Living Generously” As of April 28, 2017, we have received 157 pledges totaling $217,928. In comparison to the January 18, 2017 total, which was noted in the Annual Report, the pledging units were 141 for a total of $199,848 pledged. Therefore, we have increased in the number of households pledging by 16 and the total amount of money pledged increased by $18,080. God is good!! People are reaching out in faith that God will provide for them when they give back to God by pledging to Grace Church in order to help with our ministries within the church and outside our church walls. If you have not pledged yet, there is still time!! Please turn your pledge card in to the church. Your pledge shows that you support the life and ministry of this parish and are committed to keeping our doors open to our parishioners, our friends, and our wider community. If you would like a pledge card, please call the church office or pick one up in the back of the Church or in the lobby of the All Saints Chapel.

ACOLYTES NEEDED Being an Acolyte is a great opportunity for a young person to experience the liturgy first hand, participate in the behind-the-scenes preparation, and enjoy the fellowship of their colleagues at the altar. Any child or youth eight years old as of Autumn is eligible. There are usually three classes in the Autumn on three Sundays at 9:00 am, before the ten-o’clock service. These classes are taught by our senior acolytes. Later many acolytes, if they wish, go on to become Lectors (readers) and Eucharistic Ministers. Many of our Acolytes have been with us for ten years or longer, though a one-year commitment would be welcome. We make every attempt when scheduling to take into consideration children’s and their parents’ needs, recognizing that children today are heavily involved in all sorts of outside activities. If you or your children are interested in this program please contact your verger, Jerré Croteau, at 508 993-3048, GTCroteau@comcast.net or verger@gracechurchnb.org or speak with one of the clergy.

BIBLE STUDIES with brown bag lunch will continue on Wednesdays at noon beginning May 3, through the end of May. We’ll be looking at the women of the Old Testament. Interested in a weekend or evening version? Please contact Diana Ukleja, (508-415-8920 or diana.ukleja@gmail.com)

The names of all so honored or commemorated on or about the Sunday you request. (If you do not request a specific Sunday, it will appear one of the vacant Sundays.) There are forms for this purpose and envelopes marked “Flower Fund” in the back of the church and in the lobby of All Saints’ Chapel. SENIOR SUNSET SOCIAL & SUPPER from May 4-June 22, Grace and the City of New Bedford host a supper on Thursdays for our Senior Citizens. To participate call 508 961-3135.

SISTERS HELPING SISTERS Grace recently extended a message of support to the Islamic Society of South Eastern Massachusetts on Cove Road, Dartmouth. As we continue to seek to listen to how we might stand with our Muslim neighbors in the midst of harassment and hostility, an opportunity has arisen and we want to invite women of Grace to join in it. “Accompany your Sister” is an initiative for women to help women, offering accompaniment to our Muslim sisters in Rhode Island and SE Massachusetts on specific occasions when they feel particularly vulnerable in public, like walking in the park or going to the market or doctor. If you are interested, you may sign up directly at this link: Accompany Your Sister. You will be put on a list and contacted as needed. You may also call Travis Bowie (508-644-7066) or Sydney Webb (785-608-6727) to sign up or with any questions.

Please avail yourself of these convenient spaces with easy walking distance of the church.

During the week, parking adjacent to the Samuel Rodman House and along the east side of that building facing Little People’s College is solely for the use of their tenants and clients. Gratefully, those spaces are available to Grace Church for Saturday evening and Sunday services only. Please help us in maintaining the spaces for Rodman House tenants during the week.

PRAYER LIST When someone is ill and in need of our prayers, we encourage you to tell us so that we may put him/her on the prayer list. The name will be read on or about the weekend nearest when we are informed and placed on the published prayer list, if desired. In an effort to manage the prayer list and keep it up-to-date, a name would be left on the published sick list initially for one month. If you would like to extend the period of time, contact Charlene Ryder or one of the Clergy.
