The Rev. Melissa Howell
The Reverend Melissa Howell joined Grace as curate in June 2020 after graduating with her Master of Divinity from the School of Theology at the University of the South in Sewanee, TN. She is a native of Massachusetts, was born in New Bedford, and grew up in Fairhaven. Before seminary, Melissa worked as a clinical researcher in emergency medicine in Boston and as a high school and middle school Spanish teacher on Cape Cod and in Cambridge, MA. In her undergraduate years, she studied foreign language education and Hispanic language and literatures at Boston University.
Melissa lives in New Bedford with her husband Alex. They enjoy books, movies, dogs (especially chihuahuas), making and sharing food, and the outdoors. Melissa is passionate about pastoral care and theologies that explore the intersections of story, memory, and healing for individuals and communities. She loves the water, poetry, flowers, birds, and trees.
