Other Ways To Get involved

Soup Kitchen

On the second Wednesday of each month, a group from Grace Church volunteers to prepare and serve lunch in the kitchen at the former St. Hedwig Church in the south end of New Bedford. The lunches vary during the week, but we serve approximately 100 lunches.

Through Grace parishioners who volunteer at the Soup Kitchen under the direction of Catholic Social Services, Grace receives recognition for this important community outreach program. Members of Grace have volunteered for this program since its beginning.

English for Speakers of Other Languages

Grace Episcopal Church offers an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) class on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8 PM.

What is ESOL?

ESOL is a program where English is taught to people whose first language is not English, but who live in an English-speaking country and need English to communicate in daily life.

Sunset Socials

The Sunset Supper & Social is a 16 week program for downtown seniors and residents with disabilities.

Hosted by the Office of Human Services, participants gather weekly for a nutritious meal with an opportunity for socialization at Grace Church from 4:30 to 7:00 pm.  This program gives elder residents who usually don’t venture out at night the opportunity to gather one evening a week in a safe and comfortable environment.  Downtown residents 62+ and residents with disabilities are invited.  The program is funded by the City of New Bedford.  Pre-registration is required.  Contact Pauline Macedo to register at 508-961-3135 or Pauline.Macedo@newbedford-ma.gov.
